Who are your favourite male and female celebrities?

Star Awards 2012 Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes and Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes will be decided by telepoll and online voting.

For the first time in the awards’ history, online voting will be included. While public voting was traditionally done via telepoll voting only, this year’s results will combine 50% telepoll voting and 50% online voting.

The telepoll lines for the Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artistes will be opened from 15 March to 29 April 2012, 9pm. Online voting portion will be opened from 16 March to 29 April, 2012. The results will be announced on 29 April 2012 during Show 2 of Star Awards 2012.

首次出书就开红盘，欧萱处女作《萱。言》荣登各大书局的销售榜榜首！

最近升级当作家的欧萱，处女作《萱。言》在各大书局的排行榜上夺魁，成为了名副其实的畅销女作家。

欧萱在书中以文字及绘画天分，纪录自己出道以来的心路历程，并吸引了各个年龄层的读者。

《萱。言》在发售不到一个月之际，就创下了首印2000本全部售罄的佳绩，也成为了大众书局2月的十大畅销书籍之一，以及纪伊国屋书店上周的销售榜冠军。

为了回馈支持者，欧萱上周六（3月3日）下午在义安城的纪伊国屋书店举行签书会。

到场的粉丝有老有幼，其中还包括了一位不便于行走的老婆婆。欧萱见状，特别上前与这位年迈的粉丝打招呼，并与她合照。

短短一个半小时的签书会吸引了约2000人到场一睹欧萱的风采，把平常宁静的书局挤得水泄不通。

由于首印版已全部售完，欧萱的经纪公司透露，出版商已准备增印1000本特别封面的限量版《萱。言》，并将在近日面世。

由欧萱主演的电视剧《跳浪》将于5月16日晚上10点在U频道播出。

Adeline Lim
While she is drawn to Taiwanese actress-singer Angela Zhang’s powerful voice, Adeline Lim shared that local actress Jeanette Aw was the “main propelling factor” behind her decision to join showbiz.

In a phone interview with xinmsn, Adeline admitted that she felt like “giving acting a shot” back in her college and university days during the Star Search 2007 competition but decided to follow in Jeanette’s footsteps and finish her university education before pursuing an acting career later.

“When I look at her [Jeanette Aw], she finished her university education first before going into acting. In a way, she’s a role model who completed her studies before setting out on her career and that influenced my decision to finish my university education,” she quipped.

On her recent working experience with Jeanette for the upcoming drama series, Rescue 995, Adeline shared, “I have some scenes with her but I’m mostly unconscious in it. I try to be professional on set and not let it affect her. I still respect her very much and will watch all her shows whenever I can. For now, I’ll look up to her, support her and treat her as my role model.”

Local famous faces came together to help needy kids as part of Channel U’s info-educational series “Stars For A Cause 3”

Celebrities Jeanette Aw, Michelle Chia, Yvonne Lim and Lee Teng wielded their star power for good last week when they took some time out of their busy schedules to spend at APSN (Association for Persons with Special Needs) Katong School, home to children aged between 7 to 18 years of old – one of MediaCorp’s adopted charities, spreading warmth and love to children with special needs.

Together with volunteers recruited from TV viewers; the troop joined the excited kids at ASPN Katong School, interacting and bonding with the young lives in a slew of games and activities, such as painting, dance and home-economics lessons.

But it wasn’t all play and no work as the stars and volunteers also got down to managing housekeeping chores like helping to clean and tidy the school compound.

At the end of the visit, Stars For A Cause 3 programme sponsor CTC Travel also presented a cheque donation of $5,000 to the school.

SINGAPORE: This year’s Valentine’s Day will be a memorable one for Singaporean actress Jeanette Aw.

And no, it is not because she has a hot date.

The chirpy actress revealed that she is looking forward to February 14 because she will be releasing her self-penned book titled, “Definitions”, on Valentine’s Day.

She explained that the book means a lot to her and is dedicated to her parents as well as her late godmother, who had been an aspiring author.

She expressed that “Definitions” will show readers different facets of her personality and allow them to gain a deeper understanding of who she is off the screen.

“It’s about my musings … things that I think about.

“The [book] is like a dictionary, with different words and [vignettes about] what those words mean to me,” said the star, who is best known for her breakthrough role as Huang Juxiang in “The Little Nonya”.

No compromise

Aw said she had always wanted to write and publish a book, but making that dream a reality turned out to be rather difficult.

“This book was ready sometime back. I would say it took 3 years of preparation.

“I met with a publisher [some time ago] and they said let’s work together. They were so enthusiastic.”

“But after they read the book, they requested it to be edited with more media-related stuff and more gossip,” said Aw with an incredulous look on her face.

“I told them ‘no’. I’m not really interested in that kind of writing.”

“If I want to come out with a book, I want to do it as a proper writer. They said that ‘In that case, it is not commercially viable’ and so they pulled out,” continued Aw.

“So my book was lying there and I felt quite demoralized. I did not understand why [they pulled out] but I did not want to compromise.”

Luckily, things eventually turned around – Aw’s personal column in the Chinese magazine “iWeekly” later caught the attention of another publisher who was keen on working with her.

“Things worked out… And the book was finally on its way. It’s a gift from me to the people I love,” said the visibly excited actress.

Aw’s return to the screen

Apart from feeling pumped about her soon-to-be released book, Aw is also excited about returning to television screens again with “Rescue 995″, after being absent for almost a year due to various work commitments.

The highly-anticipated medical drama, which also stars Tay Ping Hui, Yvonne Lim and Pierre Png, is the first of many dramas Aw will appear in this year.

“I’m excited and I’m looking forward to the drama myself because I haven’t been around for some time.

“I hope they (audiences) like it,” said Aw, who plays Shi Hao Ran, a passionate, happy-go-lucky paramedic in the show.

Aw, who will also appear in the Channel U drama “Jump!” later this year, said Shi is a welcome change from the sad and tragic characters she usually winds up playing.

“I am quite a happy person but I’m always cast in very sad and tragic roles.” she said.

“This time around, it’s very refreshing for me because it’s like one of the happier roles that I’ve received so far.”

“Rescue 995″ airs every weeknight, 9pm on Channel 8.

FANS of local MediaCorp actress Jeanette Aw were up in arms last week when news broke that their idol won’t be starring in the yet-to-be-filmed Channel 8 drama Absolutely Charming as planned.

After all, they were looking forward to Aw’s return to local TV. Her last series was 2010′s Breakout.

The role of a disgraced fox spirit in Absolutely Charming has gone to Taiwanese actress Cherry Hsia.

But it’s not just her fans who are disappointed.

Aw, 32, admitted that she, too, was looking forward to acting in the show.

She told The New Paper: “I was actually very excited to be doing this show as it was going to be my first ugly role.

“The character that I was supposed to play is actually a beautiful fox spirit who is banished to earth with ugly looks as punishment for doing something disgraceful.

“In my 11 years as an actress, I’ve never played a physically ugly character, and was relishing the opportunity to do so. I hope another such role will come up soon.”

Aw said her advisers were worried that by doing Absolutely Charming, she would have been overexposed.

According to the initial programming schedule, she would have had five TV dramas airing at the same time in the next six months.

What’s more, on some days of the week, she would be appearing on both Channel 8 and Channel U at three different time slots.

But Aw’s fans can at least look forward to her new Channel 8 drama Rescue 995, which sees Aw play a paramedic alongside Tay Ping Hui, Yvonne Lim and Pierre Png. It premieres tonight at 9pm.

She and Tay play each other’s love interest in the show.

Said Aw: “I have got feedback from my fans and other people that they like my chemistry with three leading men in particular – Tay Ping Hui, Qi Yuwu and Christopher Lee.

“So I think a lot of them are going to enjoy the chemistry that me and Ping Hui have in this drama.

“It’s nice to work with him. We don’t have to use words. We will know what each other wants from a certain scene, even with a simple action like a nudge.”

Even though Aw was missing from our small screens the past year, we’ll be seeing even more of her than ever in 2012.

Aw has been busy filming Destiny In Her Hands in Malaysia and Precious (a remake of The Little Nyonya) in China.

In Destiny In Her Hands, she plays a girl with a broken palm line who gets shunned by people as they believe that she would bring bad luck to them.

Reprising her role

In Precious – which sees her starring opposite her The Little Nyonya love interest Dai Yang Tian – she reprises her role in The Little Nyonya. But this time instead of being Peranakan, her character grows up in a Chinese family of physicians.

What these two dramas have in common is that Aw once again fleshes out the tragic on-screen characters that TV viewers have come to associate her with.

Said Aw: “I have been playing tragic characters for a long time, so I really wanted to try out something new like a comedy.

“After Rescue 995, I filmed Jump! where I finally got to play a comedic role as a secondary school teacher opposite Zhang Zhenhuan.

“As all theses dramas will only be out this year. I know I won’t be nominated at this year’s Star Awards and it’s nice to attend it without any pressure.”

So the only thing that Aw said she would concern herself with was “looking good” at MediaCorp’s annual glitzy extravaganza, which will be held in April.

When she first started attending the Star Awards a decade ago, Aw had often wore white as that was her favourite colour.

After receiving comments that it would be refreshing to see her don something different, she turned up in a black dress one year – and was told that she should have just stuck to her white dresses.

“People will always have something to say, so I’m not too concerned about that. “I’ll still leave everything to my stylist this year,” she said with a laugh.

Jeanette was so sweet and pretty that I knew she was destined for Channel 8 drama in a big way. For her graduating production, I positioned her smack centre in the poster so she can pull in all the boys from the engineering faculty who wouldn’t normally attend plays. The strategy worked and we sold out – standing room only!

Loretta Chen, theatre director

Loretta is super-talented but also super-diffuse. She needs to be pinned down. When she was writing up her PhD dissertation under my supervision, I was so relieved when she announced one day that she was going for a bunion operation and wouldn’t be able to walk for a month. During the month when she was confined to her wheelchair, she wrote the bulk of her 85,000-word dissertation!

Janice Koh, theatre/TV actress and Arts NMP

She’s the most disciplined student I have taught and the quintessential multi-tasker. During her undergraduate days, she was already touring professionally with Theatreworks. In the intervals during rehearsals, Janice would be writing her term papers in the green room. That shows you how expert she is in managing time!

Jonathan Lim, theatre actor/director/playwright and Chestnuts mastermind

My memory of Jonathan is that he was the brightest spark in his class but who was always sweating up a storm. I often asked myself: How can anyone be so brilliant and perspire so much? He’s a true Renaissance man: He can write, act, direct and sing. And academically, he was the easiest student I have ever supervised: All incisive analysis and eloquent turns of phrase.
